How is breast implant surgery performed?
Breast implant surgery is done under general anesthesia and it usually follows a few steps:
the surgeon cuts (makes an incision) in the skin next to or below the breast,
the surgeon positions the implant. The surgeon may put it either between your breast tissue and chest muscle or behind your chest muscle (you may discuss the position with the surgeon),
as the final step, the surgeon stitches the incision and covers it with a dressing.
The operation may take one hour to several hours. You may stay one night at the hospital and you may feel pain for the first few hours.
Recovery after breast implant operation
The healing process after the breast implant operation usually consists of three different phases:
Inflammatory Phase
This phase usually takes 3-5 days following the surgery.
Proliferative Phase
A person’s body starts recovering and their tissues start to rejuvenate. This phase may last 5-21 days.
Maturation Phase
Your healing process completes itself at this stage. It may take a few weeks. You may see your scars fade away during this period. During this phase, you may start exercising. However, you are not recommended to exercise before this phase.
