How rhinoplasty is performed?
Rhinoplasty is performed using one of the two techniques, open rhinoplasty and closed rhinoplasty.
Open rhinoplasty involves an incision between the nostrils and the skin is lifted away for a greater vision. This technique is better for bigger adjustments such as reshaping or breathing adjustments. On the other hand, closed rhinoplasty involves incisions inside the nostrils. This technique is better for minor adjustments such as removing a small bump or reshaping the tip of your nose.
After what type of surgery you will have decided, although in some cases local anesthesia is also preferred, you are most likely to be under general anesthesia. After the anesthesia, hidden incisions are made inside your nose to lessen the scarring on your face. Then your surgeon starts to work on your nose, bones and cartilage may be broken or reshaped depending on your expectations, and breathing issues can be solved. Following the surgery, your surgeon gives you several stitches and your healing process starts.
Rhinoplasty surgeries usually take 1-2 hours
Rhinoplasty recovery process
After your procedure is done, you will have some swelling and bruising. You may have headaches and aching around your nose. 2 weeks after your surgery, you can go back to your normal life but keep in mind that it can take up to a year to fully recover. During this process, there are a couple of things for you to keep in mind:
While some tears can require immediate surgery, others can heal through:
Take your painkillers recommended by your surgeon
Avoid smoking and consuming alcohol
Get rest for a couple of days after the surgery. You can sleep with your head elevated so that you can lessen the swelling
Maintain a healthy and nutritious diet
Avoid lifting heavy lifting or physical activities at least for 4-6 weeks
You can apply a cold press and gently cleanse your face to lessen the swelling stages
